According to the New York Times, the United States Senate has confirmed Judge Sonia Sotomayor as the 111th justice of the Supreme Court. She will be the only third woman to serve on the court. The 9-member court currently has only one female representative, Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Despite Judge Sotomayor's confirmation, the court is still far from a fair reflection of the US population. However, the event does constitute a 100% increase in female represenation on the Court, and this should be applauded.
